While I may not have done more work on trying to figure out laser replacements for my Japanese scph5000, I have been working on doing preventative maintenance to my scph50001 units as well as my scph70011 slim. This has involved some research into mods that prevent the laser coils from burning out when the mechacon crashes. What I have found so far were the Pic fix, Comsoft v4, and Subzero fixes. All of these mute the coil output when the mechacon crashes, and protect the coil from burning out. https://www.obscuregamers.com/threads/comsoft-v4-fix-confirmed.2978/ has been a big help in learning about these fixes.
While attempting these fixes, I also discovered an unintended side effect to the subzero mod when installed on V9 and V10 boards. I would seem that on power up, when point k is attached to the capacitor, it causes the laser coil to bottom out on bootup and that is slightly concerning. That means I would most likely have to install the comsoft V4 mod in my system to fix the laser coil burnout issue, but I don't have a pic programmer on hand, and it is easier to work with atmega chips instead using the arduino framework. This has lead me into the direction of making my own fix based on the characteristics of the other fixes as seen in the web page listed previously. Basic code has been written up, but now I must wait until I can test it to really see if it is effective.
